History Class /// The Goldtunes

The Goldtunes are bringing back fun and catchy pop rock with their new single, ‘History Class!’ Hailing from Manahawkin, New Jersey, the band consists of brothers Caleb and Jake who record all of their music in their basement studio. Drawing inspiration from popular acts like Green Day, Weezer, and The Beatles, their goal is for their listeners to be able to sit back, relax, and take in their storytelling.

The song starts off with a cheerful piano intro, leading into the drums and guitar kicking in with a classic pop punk feel. As the verse begins, the electric guitar takes the lead alongside softer vocals. The chorus brings forth a more aggressive punk instrumental and the contrast between the softer vocals and aggressive instrumental works well and aids in their lyrical storytelling. The lyrics tell the story of a boy in high school pining for a girl in his history class, ‘And class time always flies/While I look into your eyes.’ The lyrics in the chorus then go into all of the things the boy would do for this girl, whether it’s walking 100 miles or landing on the moon.

A smooth guitar solo takes over the bridge, while the outro of the song brings us back to where we started with the upbeat piano intro. The overall style and lyrics of the single are reminiscent of acts like Green Day and Blink-182.

Altogether, the track is a good time and if you’re a pop punk fan, The Goldtunes are definitely ones to watch!
