“Shine” by One And A Half Dog comes in at 5:07 minutes, with the guitar and drums leading the introduction. The vocals join the fray with a spoken word verse, and then the vocals change to almost a howl during the chorus. The vocals are extremely full of emotion, which fits well with the distorted guitar main melody.
The lyrics are surreal in context, and seem to acknowledge the spirit within us. “Shine forever. You know that I’m still here,” they say. The song is catchy, and the guitar part is definitely enjoyable like some classic bands from back in the day. They have lots of sounds influencing their music, so it is hard to point out their influences since there are so many.
This song uses guitar and drums to set the mood of the track. Their sound is ‘90s influenced, and could be considered Alternative Rock. The group is from Norway, and they’ve shared ideas and their interests to create this project. All of the members are in their 40’s and 50’s, and originally they had no intention of producing their music for general audience consumption. It was their retirement idea or project, but now they’ve seen their songs gain popularity.
The members of One And A Half Dog are Dag Aure on Vocals, Morten Stene Jensen on Guitar, Lars Nielsen on Guitar, Pål Robert Akseth on Bass guitar and Inge Lerstad on Drums. They currently have five released songs on Apple Music, and according to their Facebook page they have more music on the way soon.
