Every once and awhile, there are songs that transport you somewhere else. While you are physically here, your mind flees towards the siren call of a majestic melody and acquires a deeper sense of wonder. “No Return,” the latest single by alternative rock band, FireBug, sets forth to expand your horizons with a boundless, rock epic.

At the start, the combo of lead singer Juliette Tworsey and guitarist Jules Shapiro set the tone with their dulcet vocals and mesmerizing guitar play, respectively. Together, they create a hypnotizing force built on a high-pitched resonance. Occasionally, this cycle is broken by rollicking melodic waves led by drummer Matt Lucich. Altogether, it culminates in a lofty melody that allows this tune to set sail.

In addition to a grand melody, Tworsey leads the way as the narrator of a limitless epic. Leaving her home behind, she is a hopeful traveler who is about to set off for parts unknown. With her heart as her compass, Tworsey is unfettered in her pursuits.

In your mind’s eye, you may find yourself riding the waves on a schooner. All there is is the vast, open sea and the jagged terra dotting the seascape. As Tworsey puts it, “all I see is the sky and the land where it meets the sea.” Setting adrift without a care, she gleefully exclaims “oh I’m free!” Escaping into the natural world leads to a newfound freedom.

“No Return” is not only a song about a journey, but is one all its own. Its own signature grandeur presses all of the right buttons to evoke awe and wonder. In turn, FireBug whisks your mind away to a far off destination with its sweeping melodies and engaging vocals.
