My Gravity /// Totemo

“My Gravity” is the new single from Tel-Aviv’s awesome singer-songwriter, Totemo. It is a reflective and pretty record about visiting an ex’s apartment that was once shared and then the processing of how this once intimate space has changed.

The tune begins with a gentle and clean percussion loop as hi-hats faintly ride along the rhythm with light velocity. Totemo hums alongside the beat as a tasteful bass line fills the low end of the groove.

As Totemo speaks to her ex, she notices changes in the apartment such as the absence of old plants they once and their replacement with flowers. These flowers of course require less care, adding to the commentary of this change, but it is ultimately this past and its memories that act as gravity that keeps her down. This creative use of symbolism in using the living space as a metaphor for the transitions of a relationship is revealing of Totemo’s strong lyrical and songwriting sensibilities.

An airy acoustic guitar accompanies the piece and it’s important to note that all the instruments and elements are very well recorded and produced, providing great complimentary frequencies without any masking. The pre-chorus does a great job with also introducing subtle synth pads that play along with the reverberation of the voice. The hook has a great rhythmic melodic quality that balances a mid-uptempo energy  with emotion. The outro is extremely pretty, a great closing to the track, as it instrumentally rides out with the vocal ad-libs and the rest of the song’s pieces.

Overall, “My Gravity” is a gorgeous tune that excels in every department from lyrics, performances, and overall production. We truly like this song A LOT and we can’t wait to hear what else Totemo has in store going forwards.
