Retail Therapy /// James Atlas

Before you spend your money, maybe you should spend time with James Atlas’s latest track ‘Retail Therapy’

‘Retail Therapy’ works with well-produced baritone vocals and synths that bounce and slide addictively. It’s dynamic, and the production makes things fit a vibe that’s both dancey and dreamy. On top of that, the instrumental elements build and fade in a way that keeps the energy dynamic. Lyrically, it explores using shopping as a means to fill a void inside. It’s an ingrained part of American culture and is explored in a way that neither demonizes it nor makes it seem good. It is as mentioned before, an exploration, and it’s done through expressing the personal need to do it.

James Atlas has already developed an eclectic discography since he started in 2020. It ranges from string-based ballad tracks that are packed with emotion to hyper-synthy dance tracks. For example, ‘Change the Lens’ is more laid back and works with string elements, and ‘Diverging Lines’ works with a more synthy rush. On top of that, he has a lot on the table already. With such a diverse discography, it’s hard to not be waiting on what comes next.
