I Don’t Need You (Someday) /// Daph Veil

Daph Veil’s debut track ‘I Don’t Need You (Someday)’ is a first look that shows a lot of emotional depth.

‘I Don’t Need You (Someday)’ uses soft rock sounds with atmospheric synths to build emotion. The vocal dynamics in this track strike with some lines that have a growly intro which pulls out the smoothness overall. Additionally, there are some whispered lines to add more to the range. Lyrically, it explores calculated emotions that come from a faltering relationship. “When I calculate / What I have lost / Always comes to zero,” it rings out in the verse. However, when the chorus expresses unneed for another, it cuts off with “someday,” expressing the feeling of having something that holds back.

Daph Veil is the new Austin, Texas-based solo project by musician Paula Laubach. ‘I Don’t Need You (Someday)’ was recorded at the Ice Cream Factory Studio and was lent lyricism by. It’s her first single, and it serves as a solid basis that can be built off of in many ways. Let’s see how her sound evolves from here!
