Rotten /// Ex Monarch

Emotion and power are two words that can sum up Ex Monarch’s new release, ‘Rotten’!

‘Rotten’ is a hardcore alternative rock hit with snappy transitions and control that shows musical prowess all around. The sections jump between heavy, moderate, and soft. And, the way it gives it a lot of repeat value. The guitar has some distortion playing into that hardcore sound, and the drums give everything a lot of extra energy. But then there’s a lot of melody to make things catchy and nice to the ears. Something interesting about the lyrics that adds interest is that Ex Monarch states that it comes from an unreliable narrator. This adds a lot of depth to its exploration of losing family due to addiction. Overall, it’s relatable to those who have been in the same or similar situations.

Miami-based alternative hard-rock band Ex Monarch is known for their passionate performances, and they also stand strong with releases. It started when vocalist Amanda Pasler and guitarist Eli Yaroch met at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music. Then, they brought George Staton, Jake Sonderman, and Saidy Burch into the mix. Since starting in 2022, they’ve had several captivating releases, went on a regional tour, and done a live radio session on WVUM. What they’ve already created shows a lot of ability and diversity in sound. Let’s see where they go from here!
