Authority Imagination – Strong Than the Pain
‘Strong Than the Pain’ has great work with the bass and guitar, bouncing almost like a call-and-response in its verses. It has an electric sound that’s reminiscent of folk-pop sound, but the guitar brings in a bit of a rock sound. These influences come together to make a song with a lot of power. And that power translates into the lyrics which express strength. Authority Imagination deals with an autoimmune disorder that affects his quality of life, but this track proves that he’s stronger than the pain.
Alas de Liona – For Forever
‘For Forever’ has a dream-pop sound with dark musical undertones. The dreaminess of the track is cut in at about :50 with a more distorted deeper sound with growly guitars and bass. The drum hits hold the pacing in that dreamy state, but in the heavier sections, it follows with heavier hits. Lyrically, it touches on forever love which is shared with ‘Vespertina’, a musical screenplay Alas is creating that follows vampires.
Katanak – Holding out for Gold
‘Holding out for Gold’ works with stary synths, a quick slappy bass, retro piano sounds, and drums with catchy loops. The vocals have a lot of strength and work with a bit of an anthemic nature. Overall, it’s catchy and exciting, and the sound has a dash of nostalgia. One thing that’s common for many is to want something better in life. This track is about just that. It uses the idea of “holding out for gold” to reference waiting for something better to come.
Brittany Danielle – Sunshine
‘Sunshine’ sounds warm, kind of like how the sun is. It’s got a nice funky groove, has a lively horn section, and works with a bouncy guitar. There are certain portions where each instrument hits the same beat, and there’s a good bop to it. Then the lyrics jump between bends, smooth holds, and more punchiness pretty quickly. It’s dynamic in a beautiful way! Also the sax solo? Wonderful! Lyrically, it’s a gooey delve into the concept of love. That expression of love seems to resound in the music as well.
Morten Egil Paulsen – I’m Really Not Impressed
‘I’m Really Not Impressed’ has a world-influenced pop sound that works with piano overtones, dynamic guitar influence, and soft percussion. The vocals take on this baritone anthemic sound that captivates. Overall, there’s something exploratory and theatrical about it that drives a sense of adventure. Then, the lyrics go into the topic of world leaders in general. It doesn’t say that any side is right or wrong but expresses disappointment in the state of the world and how they handle it.
Brian Porritt – Stay Forever Nineteen
‘Stay Forever Nineteen’ has a great bass bounce, shakers and claps that drive things forward, and an electric guitar that cuts in and out. On top of that, it has a range of different kinds of instrumentation that cut in and out. The vocals bend around to different tones well and have dynamic harmonies and filtering. They also sometimes build a sort of call-and-response sound with the guitars. The pacing is moderate, but it stays dynamic. It was written about eternal youth and is delivered creatively in terms of lyrics.
