Take Me Home /// Sunrise in Jupiter

What’s familiar can bring us a sense of comfort and safety. At the same time, it can be why we don’t grow emotionally, falling back on what once was instead of seeing what could be. Alt-rock outfit Sunrise in Jupter’s latest single, “Take Me Home,” centers around reuniting with an old love once again. All in all, “Take Me Home” captures how entangled past emotional bonds can be.

Ushered in by siren-ish, squawking chords, “Take Me Home” integrates a layer of plodding bass and drums that evolve into a bit more of a boppy rhythm. For a moment, the bridge previews this song’s soaring side led by a series of ascending riffs that re-emerge once again when the chorus hits.

In part, “Take Me Home” describes what is, essentially, emotional amnesia. You’ve fallen for each other all over again, leaving the collective baggage behind. However, the cautionary bridge of “don’t leave me empty handed, don’t wag your tongue” warns not to pull the rug out from under us again. But, that’s more of a prelude to demanding “don’t leave me dead and stranded” in the chorus. Altogether, it’s about being willing to reconcile, but still fearful of what may await you.

In addition, “come take me home,” which wraps up the chorus, is more about an emotional refuge than stability. In this case, “home” is somewhere you can recharge your emotional batteries. Altogether, “Take Me Home” is about how wandering our hearts can be in search of what it wants.
