Carrying on in Austin’s storied history of leading the underground music scene, alternative rock duo Glass Mansions has wasted no time in championing their unique upbeat and grunge-inspired sound to their growing fanbase. Methodical in their approach, every track they release feels all of their own and inspired in its mission to speak truth to power. As they grow their worldwide audience every step of the way, they celebrate the release of their newest single “VIOLET,” a rambunctious and aggressive anthem that in so many ways defines the drive of their whole project.
The piece begins with a loud, abruptive pulsating boom that immediately sets the tone for the music to come. After a few bars, the music grows in its intensity and the world these artists create with their music begins to form around us. Vocalist Jayna Doyle’s lyrics appear shortly after and begin the narrative with the opening line “Fixed eyes, straight spine, your pain’s just a passing trend. Get it together.” Deliberate in her lyrical poignance, the story immediately holds a mirror up to society and provides their perspective on the power we give the media we take in to influence our baseline of happiness and sanity.
The track proves its weight as a reflection of the fragility of our mental health in a world growing more and more overcrowded with stimulation, and prompts listeners to reexamine their own relationships with that which sends us down a rabbit hole. Captivating with every verse, it leaves fans anxious with anticipation to see what could be coming from these artists’ studio next.
