4 Emotional Tracks that Wrapped Up June and Jumpstarted July

As the first week of July has come to a close after June, there have been so many great releases with a lot of emotion at the end of last month trailing into the beginning of this one. Here are three tracks to get into your emotions in this July.

Mathea-Mari – Tired of Fixing A Broken Heart

‘Tired of Fixing A Broken Heart’ is an acoustic guitar ballad that starts with simple fingerpicking with bright, brassy vocals that cut in quickly. Around 0:32, electronic bass and atmospheric synths enter the mix, filling up the atmosphere before the energy picks up with clacky percussion taking the forefront. This track has a raw production, but it’s done in a way that benefits the whole piece. Lyrically, it hits with chilling emotion. It comes from the perspective of someone who has to walk out of a relationship due to the treatment of another because their heart has been broken. It does well at capturing the pain in walking away, even if it’s for the better.

Théa Marie – Says I’m Home (dOP remix)

The dOP remix of ‘Says I’m Home’ reimagines the original track in a way that makes it lifelike and glitchy. The guitar drone, as featured in the original track, is complemented by futuristic-sounding buzzy synths. It feels like the original track was taken and pushed forward in time, and it plays well with the energy flow. There’s something about the way that the music fades into simplicity on the line, “When I need calm.” The energy plays well with the lyricism, and it provides an evolution from the original. Lyrically, this is a track of returning to one’s home. It captures the comfort and familiarity of doing so, and the vocals play into the calm of going back to where one belongs.

Janeuary – On the edge

‘On The Edge’ works with a jazzy alto vocal and piano to start things off, then at around 0:40, percussion cuts in that rises in energy for an exciting rush. This track is cinematic and lifelike, and it continues to evolve over time. It ebbs and flows, and the ups and downs keep the track exciting throughout. That being said, the vocals take the spotlight with the instrumentation guiding the rhythm and filling things out. Vocally, it’s astounding, and the riffs and vocal bends are on point. At around 02:23, there are anthemic “oohs” that take the spotlight, and it gives a sense of adventure. Lyrically, it follows the title, it’s about being on the edge, though it takes on a poetic sense to it that leaves what that is up to interpretation. It speaks of souls talking, no sleep, and it asks another to be on the edge with the main voice of the track.

Sarah Wilde-Jones – Is It True

‘Is It True’ takes on an orchestrated instrumentation, pianos and guitars filling the atmosphere with a soft energy that picks up with a bass-y synth drone. This track is delivered with a lot of emotion, and the belted vocals play gorgeously over the piano. Instruments cut in and out of the mix at different times to create a dynamic sound, and the different parts differentiate from each other well. This track stands out as a journey of sound that’s meant to be experienced rather than listened to. Lyrically, it captures a relationship from the eyes of someone who recognizes struggles. Though they ask if they’re still “one in a million” despite everything going on.
