These three tracks are perfect in terms of the emotion they deliver through unique narratives. None of them sounds quite like the last, which means there’s sure to be something for your ears. Two are from this month, and another is a summer bop from last year to jump into if you haven’t heard it yet!
Jon Lindsay – Dear Assassin
‘Dear Assassin’ has a nostalgic soft rock sound with an acoustic guitar strumming drive and classic sounding vocals. Then the bass cuts in, and it brings everything to life. At first, it follows the guitar, then it starts transitioning notes and adding rhythm as the acoustic guitars start to ring out more. By the time the drums cut in, the full-band sound is filled with life and wonder. Later, synths are added in a way that gives a bit of an 80s twang. This track is dynamic, and it does well at quickly transitioning between sections. The lyrics are dark and quirky as they relate assassination to falling in love.
UnHappy Development – The UD Show
‘The UD Show’ is a great mix of indie and electronic, and the vocals give an emo indie sound at first that is later cut in with a rap portion. This is another track that gives the vocals the spotlight. That being said, the instrumental here is also captivating with its catchy bassline and guitar riff. This track offers up a modern bend of genres, breaking out of the mold while also finding a way to fit in captivating melody. That being said, it also has an emotional twang that shines through the vocals. Lyrically, this track delves into mental health struggles with catchy quips and well-thought-out verses.
Kayla Marque – Heartbeat Chemtrail
‘Heartbeat Chemtrail’ immediately stands out with its gorgeous sonics. Then, it has a bass riff that carries the track forward with amazing rhythm, atmospheric synths filling the soundspace with intrigue. Then there are the vocals, which take the spotlight well. They hump between an R&B sound with soft vocals and gorgeous riffs, and more of a rhythmic drive. Though they hit softly at times, they also have stronger moments for a truly dynamic performance. Lyrically, this track relates chemicals in the brain to the heart, yearning for happy chemicals after a crash. In doing so, it also details a tale of going through mental struggles.
