Sweet Tea /// RIMENY

Sometimes, relationships can be more strategic than organic in nature. As a result, we reach a stalemate in a game of two hearts. In concise, lyrical fashion, indie pop artist RIMENY’s new single, “Sweet Tea,” hints at no longer wanting to play games. Set against a soft, dulcet melodic backdrop, “Sweet Tea” is about leaving the door open with a standing peace offering.

Mostly, “Sweet Tea” exists in a very hush hush atmosphere, save for the accent of the occasional, wiry chords. It’s also not without its harsher notes, if ever so briefly. Every so often, there’s a downcast piano note crashing down from above, but only enough to momentarily contrast against the baseline mellowness. Predominately, “Sweet Tea” boasts a docile vibe, soundtracking the white flag proposition that the lyrical heart of this track has to offer.

In its entirety, “Sweet Tea” is lyrically short and simple. In a few short lines, it feel as if you’re searching for answers you may never receive. All in all, it’s about reaching the conclusion that you are no longer on the same page with someone. However, the chorus itself symbolizes a window of hope, offering up “sweet tea” as a gesture of good faith. Altogether, “Sweet Tea” is about allowing for the possibility of reconciliation.

Altogether, “Sweet Tea” is a song for wanting to be the bigger person in a tenuous relationship. It’s about recognizing the disconnect, but not resorting to severing ties as a consequence. “Sweet Tea” is about having the olive branch in your back pocket; if they are willing to accept it.
