A collaborative effort between Australia’s Plasma Baby and UK-based EDM producer Darren Rook, new wave Synth Jazz project DaPlazz has given fans all they could ask for while crafting their unique melodies with a danceable flair over the past year. Defining their work through a nuanced approach to creating beats that would feel as at home when played in a club or a film soundtrack, their music reflects the artists’ passion for their craft as well as their fearless attitude toward experimentation. Their latest release “Nebulous” proves to be a defining addition to their already robust repertoire, as its hypnotic sensibilities find a way of staying with the listener long after the rhythm has left your earbuds.
An elongated bass note accompanied by an upbeat background percussive flare begins the piece, and we immediately feel the world of this music being built around us in real time. Maintaining a consistent beat as the tune grows in complexity, we hear the intentions of the music more clearly with every note as we are taken away by its soothing, yet invigorating, style. A woman’s voice robustly begins the narrative of the music soon after, and we feel a motivation to let her lyrics take us away from the opening line, “Let’s get to action louder than words, as you’ve heard a million times before.”
Bold and novel, yet somehow still familiar and comforting, the single makes great strides in defining the project’s ambitions and overall tone. Having accomplished so much in such a short time, fans can only wait with anticipation to see what could possibly be coming from this project’s studio next.
