Whether you call it a vibe, a connection, or, simply, a feeling, there’s a magnetic, emotional force at work. It’s a nearly indescribable notion, but you alone know it exists. The only question that remains is if that certain someone will lock onto this same wavelength. “Something,” the latest single by New Zealand indie pop outfit, Echomatica, is for when you’ve already caught the feeling, but you’re left waiting in limbo.
Often composed of illuminating synth and intermingled with wiry chords, “Something” delves into the mental journey we undertake to arrive at our feelings. First off, it alludes to how we tiptoe around how we feel and travel the same ground in our heads until we lose our sense of self. Before you know it, you’ve met someone and have to make sense of how you feel. In the end, you decide to throw caution to the wind; no longer guarded or coy about what your heart wants.
All of that is a prelude to how “Something” is about the uncertainty of falling for someone. Also, in your mind, you’re a mile ahead, but they haven’t left the starting gate. But, in your heart, you know it will all be worth it; if only they caught up with you.
Altogether, “Something” is about leaving yourself open to possibility. At a minimum, that is all you may have to go on. In the end, “Something” is about wanting the ever after, but with no guarantee that the story is destined to begin.
