Two New Releases from Westwell and Greg Weeks from Yesterday, December 5, 2025

Westwell and Greg Weeks are two phenomenal independent bands who aren’t to be missed, and they just released some brand new tracks that may be in your wheelhouse. Both have different vibes but fit well into what makes indie music great. Check them out!

Westwell – Fear

‘Fear’ plays with some classical influences in its piano-ballad instrumentation and somber, emotive vocals to craft a melancholic yet cinematic piece. There’s a cello that cuts in after the intro, and the fullness of the piano and cello creates some great atmosphere. This atmosphere plays well with the baritone vocals, which have a softness and a truly emotional waver to them. In general, this track is absolutely gorgeous, and it does well at building while remaining soft overall. Lyrically, this track is about experiencing pain and personal trials while having a desire to stay kind and loving. It seems to be a prayer to above for strength in the hardest of times.

Greg Weeks – Gone Darkside

Listening to ‘Gone Darkside’ is just like taking a step back into the psychedelic scene of the 70s and 80s. In the instrumentation and vocals, there are lots of bends that work in pulling listeners in, and even the production value does well at making things nostalgic. That being said, there’s also really good clarity despite the low-fidelity production. The instrumental moments are strong and carry the melody well, and there’s a fair amount of experimentation to keep things unique. As far as lyrics go, it stands out as interesting and poetic. It paints picturesque scenes that start with an exploration of a gravelly winding affair beneath moonlight, with leaves all around. In general, it seems to be a call for looking for guidance in an unsure future with another due to a “winding” path.
