2 Synth Tracks That Show Range in How Electronic Sounds Can Be Used

The world of synth music is vast and has a lot to bring to the world of music, and it can be done in so many different ways. That’s why the Popfad team has paired these two tracks together. The first one is a haunting indie pop piece that has a haunting vibe and deep poeticism in its lyrics. The second doesn’t have lyrics, but it does well at giving atmosphere through its synth choices and evolution of sounds. Check em’ out!

Sofi Vonn – Selfish

‘Selfish’ by Sofi Vonn uses a synthy string bounce and some more well-held brighter synths that pair with a deeper buzz in the background that bends to build atmosphere. This pairs with a rhythmic percussive bounce that builds with great rhythm. In general, the electronic instrumentation builds into a dynamic, atmospheric piece that evolves greatly as time goes along. Different peaks add quicker instrumentation to give energetic peaks. Vocally, this track works with a beautiful and soft alto tone, which builds into the haunting atmosphere of the music. Lyrically, it seems to be about being caught in a love that leaves one unsatisfied, even though the subject of the track seems to have a physical allure to them. A lyric that adds another aspect is, “You wanna talk about it / Don’t be so innocent … Cause’ nothing ever changes.” There’s something stagnant that must change, but it just doesn’t, and it is never addressed.

Dr. GO – A new day

‘A new day’ by Dr. GO uses high fidelity audio and a cinematic evolution to take listeners on a futuristic journey, as many of his tracks do. This release does well with its percussive rhythm, which evolves with the track to add dynamics and liveliness to things. At around 1:17, the music evolves from more held-out synths to shorter, punchier synths, which brings things to life well. Once again, Dr. GO seems to find a sound that, though devoid of lyrics, seems to paint vivid pictures of outer space exploration. It’s like something out of a video game! This one fits into Dr. GO’s signature style but deviates just enough for something completely fresh!
