“Brad’s Cabana” by Jean Noir

Singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jean Noir’s latest single, “Brad’s Cabana,” instantly transports listeners back to their childhood. The song was inspired by a real beachside haunt in Santa Barbara, California. Whether or not you’ve ever been in a cabana or set foot in California, listeners will connect with the overwhelming feelings of nostalgia.

“Brad’s Cabana” opens with a melancholy tune which instantly felt familiar in a way, and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. After reading that the Beach Boys inspired the arrangement, it immediately clicked, as this song conveys a similar sense of security and safeness that the Beach Boys have always exuded – as though a blanket is quietly put on those listening. Being from California myself, I can relate to growing up on the beach; even if I didn’t, I would still feel immensely connected to the song, as nostalgia is a universal feeling we can all relate to.

Jean Noir’s vocals are something to be focused on – his voice effortlessly switches from low to high-toned notes. His singing quickly grabs anyone’s attention, with listeners truly hearing every word. While Noir’s angelic vocals are at the forefront, this does not mean that the background is any less special. The background instrumental features subtle, calming guitar arpeggios. Other sounds heard in the background include a train passing and the sounds of wild animals, adding to the track’s overall calming nature.

“Brad’s Cabana” was written, produced, and performed by Jean Noir, while Shiben Bhattacharya performed bass. Bhattacharya also did additional engineering alongside Scott Dittrich. The track was mixed by Cole M.G.N. “Brad’s Cabana” is available on all major music streaming platforms today.
