A growing staple of their creative institution in Hartlepool, England, neo-soul jazz outfit NEEB has been quickly earning the attention of fans across the globe since appearing on the scene a few short years ago. As the group awaits the release of their newest upcoming full length album, YANA, they tease its release with one of the collection’s defining singles, You Are Not Alone, an upbeat and hopeful jazzy anthem with lyrics that speak to the supportive and community driven relationship these artists feel with the base they have built around them.
An emphatic percussive rhythm crashes through our speakers to begin the piece, and from the opening moments we feel the categorically euphoric sense of optimism this tune was designed to foster As a keyboard’s melody enters and progresses the tune, the mood only further lifts our spirits as we are whisked away by the optimistic and disarming tone of the arrangement. Moments later when the vocals enter and round out the narrative, we hear the morality of the record embodied as a comforting yet resonant voice sings the opening line, accented in harmonization with the faintest of electronic embellishment, “You are not alone, even when your world comes crashing down around you. You are not alone, even when things start to fall apart around you.”
Making a strong case for their upcoming feature work, the track’s underscores of Latin-inspired percussion blended with a classic jazz club style of vocal delivery speak volumes to the artists’ proficiency in musicianship and their proclivity for experimentation in the recording studio in service of their own unique expression.
