The transition between Fall and Winter tends to be an emotional time, so here are 5 tracks to fill your playlists as the seasons start to change!
Loggius – In Arrears
‘In Arrears’ has a lo-fi synthy vibe with a dreamy production value and electronic-sounding backing vocals to add some bright life to things. The lyrics have a smooth baritone flow, but there are many bits with percussive hip-hop-like flow meshed with sections of longer-held notes. This track works with the concept of being “In arrears,” AKA, being in debt. It seems to explore the idea of spending money that isn’t there; a place where a lot of people are stuck at the moment.
beyond lines – Moment
‘Moment’ captures a beautiful acoustic indie sound with a slidey acoustic guitar basis and a lower vocal tone. The vocals are a bit anthemic, and they have so much emotion behind them. Part way through the track, piano, synths, and more backing vocals are added to put more life to the emotions. The lyrics tackle a struggle, one where the voice wants to live in the moment. However, it seems to be having a bit of a struggle to get to that place.
Mason Fink – I See All You
‘I See All You’ is an indie track that builds an ominous, experimental, and melancholy atmosphere. There’s an overarching synth tone in the background that bends and sways just a bit in the left stereo, and some other synths that sound like ominous voices that cut in mostly to the right. Other than that, it works a lot with an acoustic guitar, sometimes with an overlapping call and response. At its core, this track is intriguing, and the strange undertones give a lot of emotion and atmosphere. Lyrically, it’s very poetic and gives a lot to jump into and explore. That being said, the voice of the track seems to be telling a subject that they’re there, even in the darker times.
Lost & Profound – Cut in Stone
‘Cut in Stone’ is a Folk track that works mainly with simple percussion, bass drone, and acoustic guitar. The acoustic guitar mainly plays with fingerpicking which adds more layers as things go forward. As this happens, the drums add more elements, there’s some strumming introduced, a slow and steady sax enters, and harmonies fill up vocal space. Overall, it does a great job at the slow rise in the music. This is a song about love that explores the back and forth of it, the rise and fall. It seems to get into the closing door of when a relationship starts to end.
Jackie Minton – Understand
‘Understand’ blends folk and indie-rock to build an emotional soundscape that’s well-tempered. It starts laid-back and mainly acoustic but adds more electronic elements as things move forward and cuts in with highs and lows. That being said, it doesn’t seem overly done or energetic at any time, and the electronic and acoustic elements mesh well. This track explores the separation of paths when someone walks away. It seems to explore the idea of finding acceptance of that while also exploring the emotions that come with it.
