Falling Under /// Awaiting Abigail

‘Awaiting Abigail’ just released their debut EP, but you’d assume they’ve been at it for years with their single ‘Falling Under’.

‘Falling Under’ is one of those metal tracks that packs a punch and captures a feminine perspective of a toxic relationship. The guitars have a heavy dark sound with a growl in its undertone, and the drums provide a crashy rush of energy. It has all the hits to infectiously pull someone into a headbang. There’s something about the way it has a soft intro with simple piano and some bassy feedback that makes the quick power guitar cut-in feel extra strong. The lyrics are powerful, and the ethereal singing at the beginning displays a lot of range. And though there is a metal basis, the melody is captivating. The lyrics capture the essence of bitter reminiscence. They delve into a tale of a manipulative relationship in which lies start to unravel, and the story’s main subject starts to find their freedom. It captures the feeling of being stuck in something that pulls in as one starts to pick apart exactly what’s going on.

Awaiting Abigail is a fresh on-the-scene Dallas-based metal band that works with melody and emotional lyricism. In 2024, they released their debut EP “Bad Mind”. This entire EP captures a lot of aspects of the human experience, and a lot of it ties together. For example, the track ‘People Pleaser’ does well at exploring what it’s like to please others to one’s own detriment. When reading into this concept, it plays into the relationship expressed in ‘Falling Under’, as the relationship expressed is one that’s hard to escape for someone with people-pleasing tendencies. This cohesive songwriting preludes a discography of great singles that build into well-crafted bodies of work.
