Bloodlin3 ushered in the new year with ‘Blessed Today’, a collaborative piece that explores positivity in the face of struggle.
‘Blessed Today’ has an infectious blend of electronic energy and hip-hop vocals. The synths in the foreground trill quickly, giving a forward drive. Then, there are synths in the background that have some buzzier tones and other smooth ethereal sounds that resound through the stereo for added atmosphere. This is all pulled forward even more by quick trap drums. The rap verses also give a sense of diversity in sound, and that is a product of collaboration. On top of Bloodlin3, the artists Stephen King, Reinman Quiji, Mallachi, and Project Pat also lent their talent to verses. The lyrics, though given through some hard bars, tell a story of feeling blessed, even in the face of difficulties. It captures the idea of being on the grind but having a sense of feeling blessed even in the process of the come-up. This is a great energy to bring into the new year.
Bloodlin3 is an independent music group out of both El Paso, Texas and Paducah, Kentucky. Their discography works a lot with collaboration, and in that, it builds a diverse musical sound. Track to track, there are some running themes, such as many of the tracks have heavier vocals. But, nothing sounds quite the same. The collected work plays with a diverse range of influences such as Three 6 Mafia, Project Pat, and Tech N9ne, among others. ‘Blessed Today’ is another heavy hitter that uses collaboration to create something fresh that cohesively fits into prior releases but pushes an evolution that is meant to play into the group’s vision for the year ahead.
