This Ain’t The Day I Die /// Hyporadar

Now is the time to check out Hyporadar’s ‘This Ain’t The Day I Die’ from his self-titled debut album. This is a great view into his unique, rhythmic, and bass-heavy rock style that has continued with this year’s release of the EP Frankie & Estelle.

‘This Ain’t The Day I Die’ builds itself around an infectious bass riff to craft a rhythmically capturing alternative rock piece. It does great at starting with the slappy riff and slowly building the rest of the instrumentation around it, different instrumental bits phasing in and out. This way of building and pulling back crafts a great dynamic from start to finish. The lyrics take on a bit of a spoken word sound. They deliver even more interest in rhythm, but they don’t hit a rush or too much of a punch. Instead, they tell their narrative cleanly. Though the production of this track is raw, it allows each musical aspect to stand out clearly.

Lyrically, this track goes along a poetic journey that leaves space for audience interpretation. “I wake up from the voice in my head / I wake up just to know I’m here,” it starts. To some, it may stand out as an exploration of the fragility of life. Waking up the next day is another reminder that life moves forward, even though it may feel like a roll of the dice. Additionally, it builds introspection by correctly using repetition.

Shane Duquette, the solo musician behind Hyporadar, grew up in a small town without much of a music scene in Maine. He struggled to find a band but performed with others in his school’s concert and jazz bands. Once he got to college, he started the band Mr. Citrus with friends, but they disbanded shortly after graduation. This led to the creation of Hyporadar, his first solo project. The goal of this project is to transcend genre through bass-led music. ‘This Ain’t The Day I Die’ displays a unique sound that stands out from a lot of the music on the scene today.
