Today, Connor Douglas Ferguson released his new track ‘On The Mend.’ Let’s celebrate it with a round-up that features it alongside some other stellar releases from this month. June is almost over, so it’s the perfect time to catch these releases while they’re fresh!
Connor Douglas Ferguson – On The Mend
‘On The Mend,’ released today, further shows the diversity in sounds that Connor Douglass Ferguson plays with. The instrumentation starts with soft guitar fingerpicking that fits different layers gorgeously into the mix. The baritone vocals play above the strings’ beauty with a breathiness that somehow finds a way to be full and strong. At around 0:48, some atmospheric synths that start soft and rise in the mix as each note is held out find their way into the track. Then, strumming is introduced at around 01:15. The vocals do great at playing into the slow build that this release provides, and it creates a heartfelt sound that plays into emotional lyricism. It’s about a deep love and connection with another; however, it explores that love and want paired with fear of heartbreak and the reality that people fall out of love. That being said, the name of the track suggests that there’s a want to reconnect with one that was once loved so deeply.
World Without Humans – Eclipse
‘Eclipse’ is a metal-influenced rock track with infectious energy and pop-inspired melody to create a mix of forceful and catchy. The thrashy guitars and a bass lead take the instrumental forefront, with the quick drums controlling a powerful rhythm. Then, there are the vocals, which hit the vibe so well. Their powerful belting feels raw, but they’re edited in a way that gives a robotic sound at times. The sound fits with the World Without Humans band name, and there’s so much creativity to it. It sounds like a sci-fi fantasy tale put to music, and that’s what it is. It tells the story of a war between elves and humans, and the costume, location design, and editing of the music video take this story to the next level.
Aruna – Go
‘Go’ is an emotionally packed track that plays into a piano-ballad style and heartfelt vocals that have great control and dynamics. The belts have a lot of power, and the raw production allows a lot of emotion to punch through. Then, there are softer moments in higher tones that benefit from clean transitions. This track is one that shows a lot of vocal prowess over simpler instrumentation, but the instrumentation plays into said emotion beautifully. The soft moments in this track contrast with the strong moments in a way that creates a lot of emotional resonance. It lyrically gets into what it’s like to have to walk away after a once-strong relationship withers.
Kailey Conner – Existential Dread
‘Existential Dread’ provides an indie pop sound with a soft guitar line and percussion mixed with dreamy synths that cut in and out of the mix. The instruments together build a soft swing that captivates the mind in a way that can pull listeners into a place of introspection, and the guitar riff itself creates a catchy sound to experience. Then, the vocals hit in a softness that has a breathy but controlled tone, and they do so in a way that rises and falls in power. They remain soft, but the dynamic timbre gives a lot of emotion to things. This track gets into a narrative of internal struggle that goes along with the title of the track. The chorus asks for another to help pick the main voice up, and it captures a relatable experience of needing help to get out of a difficult mental position.
