Disappear /// Tropigloom

Sometimes, we apply labels for the sake of having a sense of order. When it comes to music, categories of genre blanket each song in a binary fashion, narrowing deeper with each layer of sub-genre. However, some songs create their own atmosphere regardless of a single standard. Tropigloom’s latest single, “Disappear,” presents an opportunity to shun labels and experience the music for the multifaceted experience that it represents. Parts easy going and mysterious, “Disappear” is all about creating an ambient identity.

After a slightly emphatic drum roll intro, “Disappear” moves in favor of a shimmering soundscape of ghostly echoing guitar accenting the way. For a short while, everything opens up ever so slightly with a lively flourish of drums and chords ushering in a majestically laid back chorus. All in all, “Disappear” doesn’t leap out at you with anything sharp or drastic, keeping everything relatively low-key and grounded. That said, “Disappear” is very effective at creating a mildly hypnotic rhythm in an accessible manner.

In addition, “Disappear” has a mysterious side, thanks in part to its shrouded style of vocals. In all of their vapory consistency, these vocals become a nearly seamless part of this song’s melodic fabric. Altogether, it’s a style that’s all about blending in with the ambience.

All in all, “Disappear” strives to create an air of calm without being too drowsy or mellow for its own good. It is not a mood elevator nor is it a suppressant. Rather, “Disappear” stays within a consistent, dulcet sensibility. For argument’s sake, Tropigloom’s latest single would fall under the category of ambient pop, filling life’s silence with unassuming bliss.
