Off the heels of their critically acclaimed debut album, Strawberry Moon, Pittsburgh, female-fronted indie act, Erro, has demanded their place in the spotlight with their Sophomore LP, Shadowland. An album defined by their commitment to musicality and narrative throughline, it reflects the artists’ commitment to their work in a way that resonates with fans worldwide. Headlining the collection, the record’s titular single proves a marquee standout in this project’s repertoire, and an exemplary example of their creative proclivities.
As the track begins, a few introductory chords that set the tone before a few short plucked strings, introducing a layer of complexity into the beat, and we are immediately thrown into the complex theory that scores the music as we feel the world of this song being built around us in real time. As the tune progresses, the instrumental parts play off one another for almost a full minute and we feel the themes of angst and ambitious thematic coherence introduced in the opening acoustic bars.
The instrumentality and composition drive the emotional weight of the piece from the opening bars. Seconded only by the narrative direction of their take on their societal place, the vocals offer a reflective metaphor for the times, as they sing the first lyrics “Gimme the pen, I wanna hit it again. Turn off the lights, baby say good night, goodbye, the end.”
Demanding fans’ attention with this track so deliberately, fans can only wait with anticipation to see what could possibly come next from their minds and studio.
