Makaio Huizar just dropped his newest track, ‘Merry Xmas I Guess’ today, December 19, 2025. This track takes the idea of Christmas music and fits it into his signature sound that flows with somber emotion.
‘Merry Xmas I Guess’ takes what Christmas music is and flips it on its head with its haunting, melancholic overtones. Much of the instrumentation features held-out synth tones that slowly transition to add atmosphere. These synths do well at taking the forefront of the instrumentation in the verses and fading into the background during the chorus. The vocals are soft and delivered with grace, but there’s just enough emotiveness to dash even more emotion into the low-temp piece. This track is well-crafted, and it’s unique even for currently available sad Christmas music.
In terms of lyrics, this track is about love during Christmas time. Though it also tackles the fleeting nature of love, likening it to the Snow as it goes, “And the snow is gonna fall, but it will all be gone by the Summer.” Basically, it takes the end of the year, sharing the warmth that can be had in the colder season. But, it also takes into account how everything ends, and how the aforementioned fleeting nature of a relationship is realized. Additionally, it gets into life struggles throughout the year, and the reflection that comes as it ends. There’s something about this track that will likely strike a deep chord for those who have had a hard year, and it’s written so beautifully.
