The twangy underwater feel of Midnight Jaguar’s “Baby Blue” EP is an interminably edgy, capture of the ever elusive rawness-Like the drowner’s iron lung that is a self contained breathing machine “Baby Blue” speaks through the music of Alt-country/ indie rock texture-
The melancholic songs about being betrayed through a paper-thin wall and hospitals (almost dying). “Baby Blue” is an EP of growing pains, the earth being overwhelmed by us, as Midnight Jaguar brakes out all the stops from Bluesy-Jazz, alt-country, indie rock and a veritable folk-implosion.
There’s a mystic range of both musical and drowning vocals that Midnight Jaguar has laid before us. It’s a pensive sort of rock, a satellite of tragedy spiraling around the earth- Midnight Jaguar seems to craft a mythology of dealers, break-ups, and friends in far flung places that may not understand (anymore). “Baby Blue” has a depth that often is not found both lyrically and musically-
We could describe his music as being somewhat like Wilco, perhaps Rufus Wainwright, and Prince (Yes, I said it!) Midnight Jaguar’s range is definitely a thrill to listen to, his craftsmanship is a road being treaded on by the teeth of late nights, we could posture they lead to a brighter place or somewhere where we began only we have gained a great bit of insight to enjoy the whips and wails of the lonely road.
“You sleep with whoever you want/ I’m saying farewell to it all/ …you were at a party day drinking/ while I was in the hospital thinking am I dying,” the desperation sinks in and we are alone in ourselves wondering about the freedoms that we still have left in the sacred spaces. Midnight Jaguar’s “Baby Blue” has a tendency to bear into us, to cut into our sinewy tendons- it’s an alarming feat the way we are left so raw.
