Tears to Li6ht is a synth-pop artist from Denver, Colorado who was born in Beirut, Lebanon. With “DI/ASPORA”, she offers a heartfelt homage to her motherland and its people after the Beirut explosion of August, 2020.
The 80s vibe is most definitely felt from the start, with synth pads and riffs arpeggiating through the song. The lead vocals are washed with reverberation, as ethereal layers and ad libs are panned out creating an almost dreamy Enya-like effect. The drums are delicate and hitting in the 80s fashion, but the song also carries an ambient crossover throughout its production rendering the song not shackled to just the 80s synth wave genre.
Lyrically, the song reflects on Lebanon’s people and their needs. It touches on questions on how they should be perceived. Although lyrically, the song may insinuate a somber tone, there’s definitely an optimistic energy fueling the lifeblood of “DI/ASPORA.” At the midway point there’s even an instrumental break that transitions the record into a dance number with synth basses and filtering and automated EQ’s of synths, providing builds and rhythmic energy.
The composition gets even more creative in the end with its most delicate and emotive section, as audio clips play alongside the synths and vocals to a melancholic melody that’s really beautiful. The cutting of the drums is essential for letting this section breathe. Then as you think the song has ended, it has another dreamy ambient encore that is again fragile and subtle, but adds to the emotional layering of the tune.
Tears to Li6ht is a very talented singer-songwriter and her great grasp of her sound truly makes her unique. “DI/ASPORA” is a great tune that will satisfy people searching for concepts of conscious thinking as well as if you’re just looking for a song to nod your head along with.
We very much look forward to what’s next from the talented artist.
