Fintan McKahey returns with another delicate indie/folk song single that once again delivers with his immersive vocals and impressive production. “Amber” is a love song inspired by the news of his partner’s pregnancy. The result is the birth of a heartfelt tune by the singer-songwriter producer from Cork, Ireland.
“Amber” begins with a clean folk guitar alongside Fintan’s warm, breathy voice that introduces us to the song’s intimacy.. What was most surprising was the country influence on the song as steel guitars enter the mix, performed by Kealan Kenny. A nice ambiance is formed with the effects, allowing a personal space to exist throughout the sound spectrum.
The composition is really well thought out, introducing the drums only after a minute into the song. It should be noted that Fintan is also performing these very drums, never getting too busy to take away from the tender zeitgeist that exists in “Amber.” The song’s dynamics continue to progress and really hit their apex in the instrumental break after the chorus. The vulnerable lyrics of confessing being “useless without you” is the type of sincerity and honesty that works so well with the instrumental. Fintan McKahey has done a great job packaging his songs where each integral part seems to nicely fit within the overall production. His ear for his style and the timbre he’s going for is at an expert level.
We’ve once again enjoyed a song from the Irish musician and we can’t wait to hear more from him in the future. In the meantime, we highly suggest indie/folk fans get familiar with Fintan McKahey’s catalog.
