“Festival Door” is the new single by Emblematics, a band located in Calgary, Alberta. This is the first single off of their upcoming EP, titled “Navigation.”
This Alternative Rock song has similarities to the subgenre Shoegaze, which is a style of music with dream-like vocals and distorted effects. The guitar and keyboards parts are stitched together to create this interesting style, which is maintained for the whole song. This song fits into that subgenre, but it is also fairly upbeat and has interesting composition, including the chord progression. Coming in at 4:44 minutes, it has the qualities of a jam session without carrying on super long.
Lyrically, this song asks some interesting questions. “Will you follow me? Or will you let me go down. Don’t let me go down. There’s a moment where we’re not quite sure what we have now.” This part is during a slower chorus section of the song, but stands out because of the implications of what they are saying. It is a mysterious passage, where the listener can assign their own meaning potentially.
The members of Emblematics are Michael Yun, James Yue, Will Yue and Ken Tang. They started the band during their years at university, but now are continuing the band because they want to. Their earliest release on Bandcamp goes back to 2010. They have three albums and one EP released to date.
Some of their influences, according to their bandcamp profile, include The Beatles, Brit-Pop and harmonies. They call their style Indie Pop and Chamber Rock.
