Candlelight /// Your Crush

Your Crush is an indie pop duo from Hawaii that is making awesome music that is both intimate and catchy. Their new record “Candlelight” offers a mix of warmth, nostalgia, and high quality pop production while maintaining an organic sound that blends acoustics and digital production.

The love ballad touches on relationships and the heartbreak that comes with it. Each verse offering a perspective on why a relationship ended makes this duet a romantic tune that is oozing with chemistry from its two leads.

The production is layered with a clean and light drum rhythm that is driven by a snap with subtle delay throughout the first verse. The guitars and synth take up most of the spatial sound spectrum with the reverberation allowing them to wash throughout the mix. The kick is introduced with extra percussion in the hook. What the song manages to do really well is combine a boy/girl band type vocal delivery with an indie approach to the songwriting which presents to the listener a distinct and unique juxtaposition. The song manages to package everything in just a little over three minutes, keeping the record lean and never redundant.

The simplicity of the instrumental is where the song really thrives in making the sonics and timbre feel reflective. Piano, guitars, and synth pads allow no single sound to feel overbearing and more importantly gravitate the ear towards the lead vocals.

“Candlelight” is a solid tune for fans of indie-pop love songs that have mainstream appeal. It is one of the tracks on the Strawberry Sheets EP, set to release 3-25-22, so make sure to check out the EP if you enjoyed “Candlelight.” We look forward to hearing what’s next from the talented duo from Hawaii.
