Mario the Mood stuns us all with the release of his debut single, ‘Weekend Kiss,’ featuring singer/lyricist Cecilia Lim. Speaking all about having fun and living in the moment, ‘Weekend Kiss’ is an upbeat, good-time track that is sure to get us in the mood to have an astronomical, out-of-this-world time. After you listen to this track, you won’t be able to believe that this is Mario the Mood’s first released project.
The Brooklyn-based artist took inspiration points for ‘Weekend Kiss’ from some of his most beloved genres and groups such as the European nu-disco band Lenno, NERO and Goldroom. ‘Weekend Kiss’ made its initial debut at The Iridium on March 15 in Times Square, and even received notarization from Variety.
Starting out with an electronic, dreamy aura, ‘Weekend Kiss’ will reel you in at once. We’re greeted with guest-Cecilia Lim’s beautiful vocal x lyric combination that get listeners excited to go out and meet someone new. Cecilia questions what it would be like to kiss someone in particular, and shortly after we’re greeted with an electrifying break down/chop hook.
Mario the Mood explains that the chopped hook was not the initial plan for the single, stating, “I incorrectly copied and pasted the pre-chorus vocal phrase and then decided to chop it all up out of order as midi notes to create the main melody.” If it’s any consolation, we’re glad that this “mistake” occurred, because it created such a fun, euphoric dance breakdown section for us all to indulge in.
The advanced production skills showcased by Mario the Mood made it hard to believe this is their first release. The overall pop essence of the track is accompanied by an alternative x disco x dance vibe that we truly can’t get over. Stay tuned for another upcoming remix of ‘Weekend Kiss,’ coming soon!
