GEMINI /// Kate Brunotts

Kate Brunotts’ recently released single ‘GEMINI’ is a song that every Gen Z’er should add to their playlists! The New York-based musician does it all. She’s her own producer, singer, songwriter, and music engineer, and this track broadcasts all of her musical talents. From her smooth vocals to the instrumental and production, ‘GEMINI’ certainly provides an otherworldly sonic experience.

The track is the first off of Brunotts’ lastest EP all caps, which features a larger theme of the separation between everyone’s digital and physical selves. With lyrics like “Take a pic never die/Do it all for likes,” ‘GEMINI’ definitely drives this point home.

Dreamy, all-encompassing synth washes over you in the first few seconds of Brunotts’ ‘GEMINI.’ The first verse then moves into a commentary on social media, while bringing us an electronic pop beat. Moving into the chorus, the dream-pop elements kick in and Brunotts provides quieter washed-out vocals, leading into an ethereal, abstract electronic instrumental that makes you just want to get up and dance. Lyrics like “They say I taste like honey/But sting like a bee” stand out and showcase Brunotts’ lyrical ability.

Vulnerability shines through in the second verse, “Higher standards/Above all else/Doesn’t do me/Much good.” The feeling of comparing oneself to the impossible standards set by social media is all too familiar for many in the digital age, and Brunotts knows how to masterfully craft these emotions into amazing music.

If you’re a fan of electronic/dream-pop or acts like Grimes and FKA Twigs, you definitely want to add Kate Brunotts to your music rotation!
