Howe’s latest single ‘Gold,’ is a standout indie pop track. Based in Sacramento, CA, Howe’s goal through her music is to create art that empowers feminity, and she does just that with ‘Gold.’ Not only is Howe a singer and songwriter, she also is a producer and began the production and recording of this track in her bedroom. With influences including Lorde, Marina, and BANKS, this was bound to be a great track from the start.

The song starts off with a funky bass line and some piano, and the bass definitely stands out throughout the rest of the track. After the verses, the beat then drops into the chorus, which is a wonderful mixture of electronic sounds and synth that make you want to get up and dance. Howe’s soulful vocals accompany this fun alternative pop instrumental perfectly, and her vocal delivery drives the message of the song home.

“I’m gold/precious gold/won’t be molded/won’t be told,” is the refrain that repeats throughout the track. According to Howe, “Gold is about knowing your own worth and not allowing anyone else to define it. It’s about knowing that you can do amazing things, and don’t need someone else (a midas) to turn things to gold for you, you inherently are precious, worthy, and capable.”

The bridge of the song features interesting vocal layering and showcases Howe’s vocal talent, as she harmonizes with herself. Experimental vocal effects take the lead towards the end of the track, concluding in a dynamic and enjoyable listening experience.

For alternative and indie pop fans, Howe is definitely one to watch.
