Late Night Jazz Radio /// Chósta

Chósta is a musical project by Conor Kelly, an electronic producer from the seaside region of Ireland. His work is inspired by the coastal element of his geography, hence the name. Unless you’ve been to the Dublin town of Donabate, it may be hard to sense how tangible its influence is on the music, but one thing is certain and that is that the talented producer is able to evoke a heady visceral experience connected to the late night voyages of electronic lounge music.

“Late Night Jazz Radio” is a nice portal into the lounge ecosystem, loved by many around the world. This style of electronic music is known for its subtleties, groove, and space-y keys and pads, are skillfully crafted by the producer’s intimate sensibilities of the genre. Chósta’s musical prowess of rhythm and vibes is fully on display.

The tune is appropriate for the abandoned warehouse raves and as the title fittingly presents – late night radio. It is easy to get lost in the silence and space that Chósta creates with the simplicity of the piece. Drums, bass, delayed chords, and vocal ad-libs provide the classic template of the genre that has moved fans’ feet on dance floors across the globe for decades. It’s all about the authenticity of the tasteful nuances as opposed to the bro-based house music that can be obnoxiously over-the-top. Chósta has this formula down.

The production is really solid with great drum programming and the timbre of all the instruments blend so well. Each sound with just the right amount of reverb, delay, and EQ, never sounding like a copy-cat. You can tell Chósta is a true fan of this style of music and has done his homework. In just a little over seven minutes, you will feel like you just experienced the hours after midnight in a cool venue with the right people who are there for the music and nothing else. The Boiler Room vibes are real on this one and for the heady fans of electronic music, this one’s for you.

We very much look forward to hearing what’s next from the talented producer.
