Vivre /// The Other Colors

The Other Colors is a French electronic band that was formed in 2007 by Marie Möör and Laurent Chambert. Combining their passion for research, words, feelings, and visual arts – the duo is focused on creating immersive music.

‘Vivre’ has an energetic industrial, trip-hop rhythm section that right away introduces the listener to its realm of moods that set the stage for Marie to display a performance that feels cinematic alongside its darkwave composition. The powerful synth chords and pulsating bass serve tension to accommodate Marie’s vocals that are reminiscent of Portisthead if she spoke French and had a deeper register.

The production is very well suited for its genre, with dusty drums and distortion sprinkled lightly in the mix from the percussion to the SFX. Electronic guitars enter the song, adding to the ambiance with reverberation and more fuzz. It’s easy to just close your eyes and imagine yourself as the protagonist to a suspenseful music. You’ll probably feel pretty badass as well.

The song unravels calmly in the end and to really appreciate the sound design, it may be best to listen with headphones. Panned drones and sounds dissipate as the rhythm sections slowly unwind and by the time it ends, you feel like you have just experienced something that’s more than sound.

France is known for some of the most legendary duos in music and the standard can seem daunting when deciding to form your own, but The Other Colors truly have a unique sound that is both original and memorable. We look forward to what else they have in store going forward.
