When the Day Comes /// Dino Jag

Dino Jag describes himself as an ordinary guy with an extraordinary desire to sing, write, record, and perform music. Coming from South Australia, the pop rock/adult contemporary artist delivers a number that is both fun and vulnerable with “When the Day Comes.”

The piano driven song is backed with light synthesizers panned out, allowing to set the centerstage for the big snare drums and Dino’s voice that has a singer-songwriter and theatrical quality to it. There’s a catchy trait to the piano riff and with Dino’s strong voice that has great dynamics, there’s almost a Sunday church quality to “When the Day Comes” but it’s able to maintain its pop rock sensibilities with the bass and groove giving it a proper energy that lends to radio appeal.

The most surprising element of the song is its efficiency. The song slowly breaks into a beautiful vocal fade as cliches would have you think a bridge section has arrived, but you’ve actually arrived at the end. At just 2:24, the song doesn’t overstay its welcome into your ears and ends almost abruptly, matching the context of the song’s themes of reflecting on a potential future moment and its arrival. The lean quality avoiding any superfluous sections to its compositions makes the song more repeatable.

“When the Day Comes” is a necessary song in today’s world that can use more nuance of a blend of positivity in the midst of uncertainty. Dino Jag presents us exactly that with a strong pop tune with this record. We look forward to what’s next for the Southern Australiiner.
