“Torn” by Fox Violet is a new Indie Rock song from her new album Prisms. The album has eight songs, coming in at 29 minutes long. The beginning of the song is led by an electric guitar. The bass guitar plays the melody during the verse, and compliments the vocal part well. The drum part helps create the bluesy mood, but leaves open space for the guitar to operate in.

The song structure is fairly simple, with alternating verses and refrain parts. Her voice sounds desperate, as she begs for understanding from someone else. “Now I’m torn” she repeats during the chorus.

The guitar part on this song sounds like it has been the representation of the “torn” she is talking about. There is an echo effect on the guitar as well, which adds to the ambience of the song.

She discusses how these problems are sometimes internal. “With this war, I’ve been fighting, with myself,” she sings. Whether it be anxiety or another form of mental health issues, Fox Violet is discussing topics that are important in 2021, in a metaphoric and artistic way.

The guitar effects transcend the song, placing it in a dream type atmosphere. This song can help the listener disconnect from the past, and move forward with a new understanding of your place in the world. The song contains no resolution, with one final repetition leading into a short outro section. Based out of Los Angeles, California, Fox Violet has an unique style and excellent songwriting skills, which is showcased on “Torn” but also her whole new album.
