Gamblers’ Delight /// Kevin Rieth

Thus far in the New Year, Kevin Rieth has treated us to an imaginative tune and a trip to soft rock dreamland. Now, the San Diego-based singer-songwriter is back with a burst of dreamy pop rock sunshine with his latest single, “Gamblers’ Delight.” Kick back and listen to this groovy throwback.

On the surface, a delightful, happy go lucky melody shines on through. This rock ensemble is lightened by the complements of searing trumpets and accents of jangly tambourine. All of which give off a vintage pop rock essence.  Simply put, it’s happy and carefree with all the traits of a tune that would fit right in the era of dance party shows of the 1960s and 1970s.

In competition with the joyful tone, there are Rieth’s contemplative musings on rolling the dice and letting the chips fall where they may. From the get go, he can’t put on a brave face and “make believe that everything’s alright.” After not being able to “excuse what we can’t define,” he concludes that “we might need a little gamblers’ delight.” This is not about placing a wager or playing a hand of Texas Hold’em. It’s about taking a step outside of yourself and gambling on the prospect of a greater circumstance.

Life is a gamble in which there are very few sure bets. “Gamblers’ Delight” is a sure bet to lift your spirits with its buoyant melodies and cheerful, echoing vocals. Of the trio of songs that Rieth has released this month, this single is unique for its ability to blend the lighter side of pop rock with a bit of straight faced contemplation.
