Moon and Aries return with another gorgeous tune inspired by the electronic, synth pop sound that they’ve been authentically embodying in their songwriting. A hopeful future of an evolved outlook on life is the sentiment behind “Sneak Preview” and the duo have certainly created another imaginative and inspiring composition with this new record.
“Sneak Preview” excels with its groove, where a gentle clean drum pattern rides with the rhythmic synth bass to offer a head bobbing beat. The higher octaves are filled with bright 80s synth layering that are panned outwards to provide the center spotlight for the reverberated lead vocals. As always, those vocals are gorgeously performed over the music.
The initial verse melody is an awesome riff, but the song really shows its sonic range when the drums cut out for a few bars and then the beat comes back in with a new vocal melody, delivering the lines, “I look forward to loving you.” At this point of the song, the coolness of the groove is complimenting the delicate layers of instrumentation in a really fun way that feels both refreshing and original. There’s just something about the different riffs throughout the song that are very catchy but without being over the top. The German duo definitely have a strong skill set in melody and rhythm, but it’s their implementation of these musical attributes within the retro synth-pop genre that separates their sound for most. They are able to execute a lot emotion through minimalism which is impressive.
“Sneak Preview” is another beautiful song from Moon and Aries and we are very much enjoying the music they have been putting out. Moon’s voice just compliments Aries’ production in a non-forced manner and the duo is clearly growing their chemistry with each release. We can’t wait to hear what’s next.
