“Little Lies” is the new single from indie pop artist Elison. The group is a duo, consisting of Marissa Kephart and Scott Yoshimura. They are based out of Des Moines, Iowa. This song features keyboards and a simple background drum part, that’s subtle since the atmosphere created from the synthesizers is laidback and calming.
This song has a slow tempo, and has major influence from the genre shoegaze, also known as dream pop. The song is 2:55 minutes long, and has a catchy main melody from the keyboard. Kephart is on main vocals, and her soothing voice fits perfectly into the track.
The lyrics of this song touch on lies. The lies we tell others, and the lies we tell ourselves. “Maybe it’s what we don’t say. That saves us” she sings on the chorus. She relates this universal feeling with the listeners so they can synthesize and evaluate their own lives, to see how these lies can hold us back. “Lines grow across your face, light has been replaced. Didn’t used to be this way, back before you were astray” she sings before another repetition of the chorus. This song offers a lot of area to have personal reflection, as well as reflection on those around us.
Elison was formed when Marrissa Kephart, after wanting for 20 years to make music, finally set out to make it happen. After sharing her demo with Yoshimura, they soon realized that their creative aspirations could fit together. They have four songs released to date.
