As much as you may believe in destiny, our lifetime paths are often not drawn in lines of our own design. Instead, we travel a continuously divergent road with twists and turns abound. Sometimes, the only solution is to go with the flow wherever it may take us. “Where The Wind Blows,” the latest single from indie pop duo, The Bergamot, is an easy, breezy contemplative vibe.
As always, husband and wife Nathaniel Hoff and Jillian Speece’s innate harmony shines through. Much like how they come together with one, mellifluous voice, this song evokes a resolute sense of unity in the face of the push and pull that the world puts upon us all.
Basking in a warm and mellow melody, this tune conjures up the calming, intrinsic link between the self and nature. Transitioning from elemental to personal lyrical themes, it establishes the intersection between the macro and the micro. “Let’s go where the wind blows” encapsulates how the individual is at the mercy of factors beyond their control. Instead of fighting the currents of change, Hoff and Speece ride it out.
Aside from a resolute mantra, this tune is meditative on numerous fronts. Starting with “clouds” that “gather all around” and onto the ensuing “rain pouring down,” the ever changing nature of weather serves as a metaphor for the unpredictability of life. In turn, our attention is turned within towards “dreams” and “visions.” While both are abstract in nature, they are held close to our hearts as a barrier between us and any stormy weather, literal or metaphorical, that may arise.
“Where The Wind Blows” is a heartwarming pop tune that wraps you up in the comfort of an invigorating melody and tranquil vocals. At the same time, a deep, meaningful message is not lost in the shuffle of the captivating soundscape. Hoff and Speece have crafted a thoughtful brand of pop that is as introspective as it is entertaining.
