Meaningful lyrics, captivating instrumental, and an overall calming atmosphere are the perfect words to describe Charlie Steady’s latest singles, “Once Upon a Time I Fell In Love” and “Out of Control Pathos.” The songs are emotional pieces of art, showcasing both Steady’s lyrical and musical talent. While “Once Upon a Time I Fell In Love” has a much more somber vibe, “Out of Control Pathos” has a warmness, yet both encompass feelings of hope and insecurity. Although the two give off contrasting emotions and are even different genres, the songs work together flawlessly to tell a story.
“Once Upon a Time I Fell In Love” and “Out of Control Pathos” are going to be a part of Steady’s upcoming album, “Magpie,” which releases in September 2022. Magpie is a fictional character serving as the star of the album, a starving artist trying to make their way in the big city. Whether or not Magpie is a metaphor for Steady himself, anyone trying to make a career can relate to Magpie’s emotions in both songs.
The universal insecure feeling we all have of giving and receiving love is highlighted beautifully in “Once Upon a Time I Fell In Love.” The track showcases Magpie’s unconfident side. Throughout the song, Magpie asks themselves whether or not they deserve love and if it will be something they will experience in the future. After the wistfulness of this track, “Out of Control Pathos” brings a lightheartedness to Magpie’s journey as both an artist and human. Whereas “Once Upon a Time I Fell In Love” looks at Magpie’s vulnerable side, “Out of Control Pathos” brings confidence to them, showcasing their excitement for their journey as they navigate a new city.
“Once Upon a Time I Fell In Love” and “Out of Control Pathos” are truly remarkable and unique tracks about uncertainty, love, and growing up. Both are available now on all music streaming platforms.
