Holy /// Damon K. Clark

Damon K. Clark returns with his new single, “Holy”, which is a lyrical exploration of what it means to feel seen and loved by someone and the empowerment that exists within that space. The talented artist from Dallas returns with another intimate, soulful tune that boasts a warm gospel prowess along with spoken word poetry.

“Holy” begins with Clark’s spoken word examination of spiritual connection over a piano. Compositionally, he makes a great choice with keeping the instrumental minimal to allow ample room for his words to be front and center in the mix. Throughout the verses, he expresses different perspectives of the union of love and the acknowledgment of receiving it. Clark poetically expresses how love amongst humans can transcend our realities. Each verse is consistent with the instrumental format, as they progress throughout the song to finally arrive at how we become holy. There are also pretty vocal layers in the background that feel like synth pads with how they’re produced.

The tune introduces its captivating spirit at the hook as a kick drum is introduced with a faint shaker and snare. The rhythmic section is topped by a big, wide vocal bed that makes you feel like you’re in Church. There’s a lot of soul permeating the contents of the chorus with lines like, “Holy, worship me slowly, let me in.”

The second hook adds a soul clap to the arrangement, which is then followed by stomps, which further add to the pulse of the record’s spirit. The third hook has the most full-forced delivery as an organ synth and additional layers of harmonies are added to it.. This section truly feels like a choir is performing in front of you. The amount of octaves that are being covered vocally really fill out the sound spectrum in a beautiful way. It’s a great musical experience.

By the time you conclude “Holy” there is a high probability that you will feel like you’ve been purified through sound. Damon K. Clark continues to prove he’s a talented and innovative artist who is making music from his soul.
