Carter-senpai – Cheddar Chopped
‘Cheddar Chopped’ captures a warm and optimistic hip-hop sound that isn’t prevalent much in today’s hip-hop. It jumps between a bright flow and captivating melody, and the backing beat has jazzy undertones with brass sounds, piano, and some moderately paced but trap-influenced drums. There’s something about this track that’s joyful, and that’s a nice turn from a lot of modern music. The lyrics explore the come-up, giving to the community, and sharing love and care with others.
Niomi – adderall
‘Adderall’ is interesting, as it fits in an album that’s also part of an alternate reality game and video game. The opening uses a sort of experimental ambiance that quickly picks up the pace for a punch of energy. It has a mesh of 8-bit sounds and hyperpop to make something unique and energetic. Additionally, it has a captivating dynamic flow, as it refuses to be one note both in tempo and sound. Though the lyrics play into an overall story, at face value they explore prescriptions that don’t work, falling apart, and trying to find an end to be with another.
MICALL – GREENER
‘GREENER’ is another track with an optimistic sound. The vocals take the spotlight in this track with a brassy brightness, powerful belts, and great control. The backing beat is moderately-paced but overall, it moves between being full and soft. The dynamics of This track make it exciting even when the tempo isn’t raised or rushed. The lyrics explore finding connection with others, discovering oneself, and finding more color in the world.
Le Derby – Opening
‘Opening’ is an exciting pop-EDM track with a quick pace, entrancing synths, and powerful vocals. Its sound has some atmosphere that makes it reminiscent of vaporwave, and the vocal filtering that’s used makes it fit into the electronic sound overall. This track tells a story and uses music to do so. It’s about a race or battle with those connected all in that race, all looking for the same prize. It also explores ideas of love and loneliness, and its poeticism gives a lot to explore.
