Carrie Ryan’s new single ‘Wild Love’ shows the power that a folk background can bring to an alternative-pop piece.
‘Wild Love’ is a string-heavy piece instrumentally, seamlessly blending guitar, cello, and piano. However, the alt-pop influences are built with synths that seem to float in the atmosphere. Though the track works a lot with electronic sonics, there’s something raw about it, even in its clarity. The production and mix are stellar! The mix allows the vocals to take the stage at times and the instrumentation to find the spotlight in others. The vocal and instrumental filtering is absolutely dynamic, keeping the flow fresh even with the track’s moderate tempo.
Also, the emotion in the vocals finds a way to flawlessly work with lyricism that has emotional depth. Lyrically, Ryan says that ‘Wild Love’ is inspired by what it was like dating in her 20s. It captures what it’s like to fall in love fast, a love that’s wild. “Masochistic lover, though I ain’t a saint / I pull you close, just to push you away,” the second verse delves deep. In general, it explores love and heartbreak from the perspective of quick-paced relationships. These relationships not always being healthy. And it does so in a very vulnerable way.
Carrie Ryan is a Cleveland, Ohio-based musician who is making a transition from being a folk artist to being an alternative pop and rock artist. ‘Wild Love’ showcases this transition in sound with its emotion and is what listeners can expect from her upcoming discography. ‘Wild Love’ was lent help with the mix, production, and mastering by Abbey Loren, who had a lot to add to the piece. Ryan has something bigger on the rise, as this track is a piece of something larger coming in 2025. This is a strong initial release, so there are exciting things on the way soon!
