Folksy, nostalgic, and well-written are the three words that may best describe The Rotor Delta’s latest single, ‘Howling at the Moon’.
‘Howling at the Moon’ is a captivating and cinematic piece that hits a good blend of psychedelic and folk music. There’s a piano in the foreground of the instrumentation, and the drums have a softness but give a bit of an uptick in energy. The guitar and bass are mixed a bit in the background, but it’s done in a way that makes sure the music isn’t too full or overwhelming. Also, the production of this track is crisp, which adds to the fullness. Vocally, it rests along the lines of nostalgic folk music with that rasp and wispiness. This track is soft and sweet, but it’s also dynamic and forward-driven. The lyrics use poeticism and natural imagery to tell stories of parties, bar fights, and love. It feels like delving into the fleeting sensation of a late night, where mistakes get made in the heat of the moment, likely due to poignant memory and escape.
Jimmy Green, the musician behind The Rotor Delta, is a Lincoln, England-based musician and songwriter who is known for borrowing sounds and influences that span several decades. He weaves sounds from the past with modern production techniques to make something that sounds nostalgic but is new. Green both writes and records his own music, and he’s inspired primarily by folk music from the 60s and 70s and rock music from the 80s. He plans on releasing a single a month in pursuit of creating an EP or an album. That means that there’s so much new music around the corner.
