Walking Away /// Kelsie Kimberlin

Though getting out of a difficult situation is a good thing at the end of the day, it can be hard. This difficulty is beautifully depicted in Kelsie Kimberlin’s latest track ‘Walking Away’.

‘Walking Away’ is one of those tracks that feels like it comes from pure emotion. The instrumentation keeps a held-back pace, working mainly with piano and some deep bass. But as things pick up, harmonies, synths, and a cello sound enter the atmosphere. The vocals have this soft and breathy tone, notes held well but with just a bit of an emotional waver at times. This track hits such a deep note, and it is here to console those who are hurting. Lyrically, it’s a track about moving forward and being “born again.” It goes into what it’s like getting out of an abusive relationship and the pain it takes to shed the baggage from it. This track hurts, but it does so in the right way.

Kelsie Kimberlin is a Ukrainian Washington D.C.-based pop artist with a large discography of over 100 original songs. Over time, she has worked with Grammy award winners and garnered tens of millions of streams. Recently, she’s been working on a full-length movie that is meant to detail the resilience and resistance of the Ukrainian people. The music video for ‘Walking Away’ was recorded while she was in Kyiv for the film production. It features her taking off clothing, which references getting rid of the weight of the former relationship that the lyrics speak of. This poeticism between audio and film shows artistic skill that’s sure to shine even more in her projects moving forward!
