‘Sweet Stories 2’ is an infectiously catchy Afrobeat track with a heartfelt vibe. The instrumentation has a brightness to it, and there’s a light bounce that flows well. Additionally, there’s the guitars have a great groove. When it comes to the vocals, there’s a smooth soul to things, the riffs hit their intricacies well, and the higher tones are delivered with a sweet softness. African Child brings in even more life with his vocal portions. Lyrically, this track tells a sweet story. One of a deep connection between two people, and it expresses itself as a love story.
Out of Kingston, Jamaica, Jay J. Ra, is a Canadian musician who works in a range of genres including R&B, Afrobeat, opera, gospel, and pop. Before recent releases, he created under the name of D.bé Jayri. Jay J. Ra started by singing in church but soon wanted to make his own music. This led him to start making original songs at the age of 14. Under his previous moniker, this artist released four full-length albums starting in 2016. Jay J. Ra has roots in Ghana, and since finding this out, he pushed to work with more artists that bring him back to said roots. This led to him featuring Ghanaian dancehall and reggae musician African Child. Additionally, producer Dan Bassey lent his hand to the project and Quab Sea helped with mixing and mastering. Both of these artists are also from Ghana. This collaboration is wonderful to see, so let’s keep an eye on what Jay J. Ra will do and who he’ll work with moving forward.
